Ben Sim
Ben has over ten years of experience on climate change risk assessments and adaptation planning, public financial management, and policy and institutional design. He has worked in New Zealand and over ten countries throughout Asia and the Pacific.
Since joining T+T in 2019, Ben has developed the National Adaptation Plan Guidelines for the Pacific region, completed community vulnerability assessments and adaptation plans in 21 outer islands and atolls in Papua New Guinea, and led the delivery of trainings and assessments on strengthening access to climate finance. He was also a part of the teams that delivered the first National Climate Change Risk Assessment for NZ, and the first climate change risk assessments for the Canterbury and Otago regions. Prior to T+T, he worked internationally for intergovernmental organisations and research institutes, and has acted as an advisor to governments on climate finance across Asia and the Pacific.
He has published widely on addressing climate change and sustainable development in the Pacific. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Biological Science from the University of Auckland, and a Master of Environmental Management and Development and a Master of Diplomacy from the Australian National University. He recently became a Certified Expert in Climate Adaptation Finance from the Frankfurt School – UNEP Collaborating Centre for Climate & Sustainable Energy Finance and is currently a Master of Public Health candidate at the University of Auckland.
