John Hopkins
John Hopkins is a Professor of Comparative Public Law who specialises in Disaster Law and Governance. He is the Director of the LEAD Institute of Law Emergencies and Disasters at the University of Canterbury Law School and is a theme leader with QuakeCoRE Te Hiranga Rū (the NZ Centre for Earthquake Resilience).
His work in the field of disaster law has included European Commission, IFRC and National Science Challenge (NZ) funded projects examining regional and national approaches to disaster law in the Asia/Pacific and Europe. In 2021 he was the independent legal advisor to the New Zealand Parliament’s Epidemic Response Select Committee.
