Peter Amos
Peter Amos is the Managing Director of Damwatch Engineering Limited, a specialist consulting dam engineering and dam safety company based in New Zealand. He is a Principal Civil Engineer with 34 years of experience in several countries, specialising in dams and heavy civil engineering, with specific experience in structural and seismic engineering together with dam safety to reduce public safety risks.
Peter is a past Chairman of the New Zealand Society on Large Dams (NZSOLD), and represents New Zealand on the Environment Committee of the International Commission on Large Dams (ICOLD). Peter consults to the World Bank on several projects building capacity on dam design and dam safety in developing countries to reduce risks from dams and their potentially disastrous effects on downstream communities. Peter is currently Project Leader for a project funded my NZ Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade to improve disaster risk management relating to dams in Vietnam. The project objective is to build capacity in Vietnam for end to end management of risk from identifying flood, landslide and seismic hazards, through improved safety of dams to better community based disaster risk management downstream of these dams.
